Lady Lions Dominate Silverbacks in 5-1 Victory

Dayton – The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women’s team (4-0-0) welcomed the Atlanta Lady Silverbacks (1-1-2) to DOC Stadium on Saturday. The Lady Lions outpaced their opponent and controlled the game, winning 5-1.   From the opening whistle, the Lady Lions passed, crossed and pressured the Atlanta Lady Silverbacks in their final third. Opportunities were plenty in the first ten, but the Lady Lions failed to capitalize and score.

That changed in the 12th minute as Josee Stiever ran down the right and shot across the Atlanta goal. The ball spun off a Silverback defender and into the goal. Momentum was on the Lions side and four minutes later Dayton’s Ode Fulutudilu crossed from the right as Florence Dadson ran in for the header to put the Lady Lions up by two.

Dayton came out strong in the second half and Atlanta’s defense and keeper Caroline Brockmeier were tested. In the 62nd minute the Lady Lions scored their first goal of the second half. Meghan Blank broke away and put the ball in the net, beating Brockmeier as she came out.

The Lady Lions struck again in the seventy first minute. Defender Nugene Nugent pushed up and took the ball to the net. She fired off a hard shot for the fourth Dayton goal of the night. Dayton finished their scoring streak in the 86th minute as Liz Slattery put a ball away off a cross from Libby Leedom. The goal was the fifth of the night for the Lady Lions.

Atlanta continued to fight for a goal and in the ninetieth minute Chloe Richards scored for the Lady Silverbacks.

The game ended Dayton Dutch Lions Women 5 and the Atlanta Lady Silverbacks 1.

Coach Macleod had this to say about the game: “After last weeks’ game we had a discussion about how to increase our tempo. We need to play more through the center. We are going to create more on top of the box, that’s where we are going to get our shots. We knew Atlanta would be a tough game when they came in. We wanted to come in with good tempo and pace, and we did that. We came out strong, we had four or five good shots. The girls played hard in the second half and continued to finish their chances. We got the result we were hoping for.”

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women play at home at DOC Stadium in West Carrollton Saturday, June 20 against the Charlotte Lady Eagles at 5pm. The Lady Lions travel to play the Washington Spirit Reserves, June 25th at 6pm at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart.
