WOMEN’S TEAM STAYS UNBEATEN

West Carrollton, OH (June 11, 2016)  The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women's team (4-0-0  12 points) defeated the Columbus Eagles 3-0 behind two goals from Rose Lavelle and another strong defensive performance.   The Lions are in first place of the Women's Premier Soccer League Valley Conference having won their first four matches.

Woman of the Match, Lavelle, broke the deadlock in the 39th minute and added a second in the 79th minute.  Her first goal came off a rebound when Aaliyah Pattern broke inside the penalty area and fired a hard shot which the keeper was not able to hold.  The rebound bounced out and Lavelle was able to pounce on it and put the ball in the back of the net.

Her second goal came off a very creative pass from Christine Rebus.  Rebus had won the ball in the midfield and carried towards goal with pace.  She slotted the ball through the backline to an onrushing Lavelle.   Lavelle took a quick touch, turned on the ball and fired her shot far post to beat the keeper.

The final goal was provided by continued teamwork as Mattie Cutts was able to head a clearance down the left flank as Meghan Blank was overlapping her.  Blank settled the pass and cut inside.  She hammered a powerful shot that the Columbus keeper was able to get a hand on, but was not able to stop as it curled inside the post for the final score of 3-0.

Goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald only needed two saves to preserve her third shutout of the season as she and the defensive group shutdown the Eagles attack.

"It is good to have added another win, but we did struggle in the first half a bit.  We did not connect our passes or create any real attack.  Our improvement in the second half was excellent as we controlled the possession of the ball and played in their half of the pitch the final 45 minutes," said Head Coach Ian Richardson.

The Lions have a small break until their next home match on Friday, June 24th at 7:00pm.  They will host the 2nd place Cincinnati Sirens at the Doc Stadium on the campus of West Carrollton high school.
