Lions Sign Veteran Irakli Khutsidze for 2015 Season
The Dayton Dutch Lions FC is happy to announce the signing of Irakli Khutsidze. Khutsidze, from the country of Georgia and has played for the Dutch Lions the past several seasons in the USL. Khutsidze can play a both defensive and center midfield for the Lions and will be able to bring some international flair and leadership to the young Lions roster.
Listed at 5’9”, Khutsidze, a 25 year old defensive midfielder will occupy the base of the Lions 4-3-3 formation. While with the Lions USL club, Khutsidze made 35 apperances, tallying three assists in 2013. In 2008 and 2009, he was also made a few apperences for the Georgian U19 and U21 National Squads.
For Khutsidze, the opportunity to be back in Dayton was something he was looking forward to.
“I am glad to be back here. I am glad Patrick is also back as coach. My first year with Patrick we made the playoffs, the first time in Dayton Dutch Lions history. I am looking forward to the season!”
Head coach Patrick Bal is also excited to bring back one of his key players from his first time coaching the club.
"I'm very excited to have Ika back on the team. I worked with him during the 2013 season and he was a very valuable part of the team. His technique and vision are fantastic. In the PDL most of the players are under 23 and he brings a lot of experience to the club. He showed how good he's been since the first training, and I expect him to bring his creativity into the games. He can absolutely make the difference."
