The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women's team proudly announces the re-signing of Jen Agueci. The 2011 defending player will step up as a midfielder coming season. Canadian Lion Agueci is a great asset to the team, under management of Dutch Women's coach Fernando Derveld. The DDL FC asked Jen Agueci about her second season in orange.
What made you decide to come back to the DDL FC team?
"I came back to play for DDL because I love the potential of the club. I felt like we were a very new and young team last year and came out and competed strongly with such a high division. (Atlanta being W-league champions) I had a great time, made a lot of new friends and enjoyed the intensity of training. I also like DDL's closeness within the club. Not only are they a club, passionate about soccer, they also create a great social atmosphere with various team events for both the girls and guys teams."
Last year you played as a defender, but you will be a midfielder coming season. Can you tell us about the switch?
"I have actually always played midfielder. Last year our first scrimmage we were missing an outside back so I filled in and it ended up being my permanent position. I am very excited to see what I can do to help the team in the midfield, but will play wherever I am needed."
Where did you play during the off season?
"I played my whole college career for Wright State University. I had a fantastic 5 years ( tore my ACL my senior year) and really feel like I have just continued to develop as a players through the great coaching staff and intensity of the players there. I have also played in the W League back home for the Toronto Lady Lynx."
What is your goal for the 2012 season?
"My goals for this season is to excel as a team. Last year we finished third in our division, this year my hopes is that we can raise the bar and try to finish at the top of our division. With a complete new team of only three returners it will be interesting to see how we can mesh. My personal goals are just to be able to do everything in my power to raise the level of play on our team and ensure we remain competitive."
Which team do you think will be hard to beat, and which team is the 2012 favorite?
"Every game is going to be a battle, especially with finding the chemistry between all our new players. I am excited to play DC United with their strong roster, but Virginia Beach is always a tough match too."
What do you think of the team quality so far based on the pre season?
"I think we have a lot of potential as a team. We are defiantly going to need some players to step up into big roles on the team, but I am continued to be grateful for all the hardworking and competitive girls we have."
The DDL FC team consists of several local players and plays its first W-League game May 26 at the Virginia Beach Piranhas and open at home against the D.C. United Women May 31 at 7.30 p.m. ET.
