Lions win Ohio Battle, beat Columbus Crew

Dayton Dutch Lions FC takes away win in Columbus and advances to fourth round in US Open Cup

Dayton, May 29 2012

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC made some history today by beating MLS club Columbus Crew in their home stadium 2-1. After keeping the score at 0-0 for 63 minutes it was the Columbus Crew that got on the board first scoring off a  penalty kick that was awarded after a handball in the penalty box. But after switching to a 3-4-3 formation in the last 15 minutes the Lions rewarded by scoring two great goals in 2 minutes time. First Gerrit Bartels scored the equalizer and a minute later he also had the assist on Gibson Bardsley making it 2-1 for the Lions. And opposite to some games before in the season the Lions hold on to the lead.

The Lions now face the Michigan Buck, who beat the Chicago Fire, in the fourth round next Tuesday in Michigan.
