Dayton Dutch Lions FC facing Charleston Battery
Dayton, June 1 2012
The Dayton Dutch Lions FC are looking to extend their 3 game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) against the Charleston Battery Saturday night at 7.30pm at Beavercreek High School. The Lions upset MLS team Columbus Crew last Tuesday to advance to the US Open Cup round 4. A week before they beat the Chicago Fire PDL with 2-1 and in between they tied Rochester Rhinos 2-2 while leading 2-1 in the 93rd minute. After scoring only 2 goals in the first 6 games the Lions have scored 6 in the last 3. A win will put the Lions above Antigua finally leaving last place in the standings.
The Charleston Battery are currently in third place with 18 points in 8 games, 6 wins and 2 losses. They come off a win against Pittsburgh on Thursday night and a win against the Lions will put them in 2nd position behind Orlando.
Head Coach Ivar van Dinteren on the game: “of course this week was huge for the club beating our neighbor the Columbus Crew. Not only was it great for the team but for the whole club. We have known ourselves for some time that although we do not have a lot of points we could also have been in 5th or 6th position easily looking at the late goals we got scored on. Our main problem however was scoring and we seem to have a good solution to that scoring six in the last three games giving our team a lot of confidence for Saturday’s game to finally pick up our deserved first League win. I have analyzed the Battery and although they are a very strong team with a great central midfield I see our chances. If we play as organized as we have been as of late we will definitely get a good result again”.
The game will take place after the Dutch Lions FC Women’s team plays DC United at 5.30pm.
The Dayton Dutch Lions FC The Lions are currently 0-4-4 and face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at home on June 9. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online through www.dutchlionsfc.com
