DDL FC looking to built on US Open Cup win

Dayton, June 8 2012

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC are playing against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds this Saturday June 9 at 8pm at Springboro High School. The Lions are coming off a great win and the club’s biggest achievement by qualifying for the quarterfinals in the US Open Cup beating the Michigan Bucks 2-1. The Lions are 0-5-4 in League games but 3-0-0 in US Open Cup games and are looking to pick up their first win against Pittsburgh, same as last year. The Riverhounds are currently 2-6-2 and a win would bring the Lions within one point with one game less played.

Both teams played each other already last month and the Riverhounds beat the Lions 2-0 in the second game of the season. According Head Coach Ivar van Dinteren the game had two parts: “the first half we played poorly and they deserved the 1-0 lead. The second hand we dominated but got scored on a counterattack. It was a game we should not have lost. The game Saturday is a crucial one for us to stay close to the other teams and finally leave last position, a place we should not be looking at our games sofar with several close and undeserved losses. We have gained a lot of confidence after our Cup game this week but also struggle with some injuries because of that game. We have played so many games of late that we need some new guys to step up and i am very confident that they are eager to earn their spot. For sure, we want this win and finally give our home crowd a victory. Many have supported us in Columbus and also Michigan, now we have to pay them back.”

The Lions are currently 0-5-4 in League games and 3-0-0 in US Open Cup games and after this weekend’s game they travel to Los Angeles for two games (June 15 and 17) against the LA Blues. After that they face the Wilmington Hammerheads at home on June 23 in a double header with the Women’s team. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online through www.dutchlionsfc.com.
