DDL FC wins in Tampa 1-0

Brandon Schwartzendruber shoots Dayton Dutch Lions FC to victory

Dayton, April 27 2013 - The Dayton Dutch Lions FC picked up their second win of the season in as many games by beating VSI Tampa with 1-0. The goal was scored in the 68th minute by Brandon Schwartzendruber, who just entered the field together with Eric Kissinger, who recorded the assist.

VSI Tampa was in first position of the standings coming into the the game and without a loss of points in their home games sofar. In the first half VSI Tampa had  a little more possession and forced the Lions back on their own half but same as in the opening game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, the only real danger came through their right en left fullbacks making several runs and delivering a few crosses in the box. The defense was very solid again and also tried to keep playing the ball from the back to and through the midfield.  The few chances that the DDL FC created were mostly runs in depth by Gibson Bardsley en keeping the ball by Remco KLaasse looking for his 20 year long partner on soccer Tjeerd Westdijk who made his debut in the USL Pro League.

The best chance of the game for the Lions came when Klaasse connected with Westdijk in the 62nd minute, when Klaasse got a through ball and served it in front of goal where Westdijk struggled to control the ball one on one with the goalie. He did get a shot at goal but it went wide. VSI Tampa also had several chances in the second half, mostly created by servings from the side in the box again with Matt Williams picking up everything. The game winner came in the 68th minute when Erik Kissinger went deep on the left side sand served the ball to Schwartzendruber, who fired a low shot in the left corner past the Tampa goalie: 1-0.

After the goal VSI Tampa did create more pressure looking for the equalizer but the only real chance they created was a shot that was deflected and hit the top of the crossbar. The win means that Dayton Dutch Lions FC has 6 points after the first two games. Tonight the team plays Orlando, last years regular season Champions and favorite again for this year.
