DAYTON, Ohio – The women of the Dayton Dutch Lions W-League team have completed the preseason that included a second-place finish in the inaugural Dutch Lions Women’s Cup. The team is now prepared to open the regular season at home this weekend against the Charlotte Lady Eagles.
Sid van Druenen, Dayton Dutch Lions FC Technical Director and Head Coach for the W-League squad, has assembled a roster full of talented young players, many of whom are from the Dayton area.
“I am excited to get started. The girls have been working hard and it has been an interesting search for the ideal formation and starting 11,” said van Druenen. “I knew there was a lot of raw talent on this roster but I must admit that I and my assistant coach are having a hard time deciding who will be starting next Saturday. But independent of who starts, the goal for our first league game is clear; start the 2013 W-League season the best possible way and that can only be a win.”
The Charlotte Lady Eagles are one of the Dutch Lions rivals in the Southeastern Conference of the W-League. They will come to Dayton having already played a league match, a 0-3 loss against the Atlanta Silverbacks last Saturday.
Dayton holds a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series with Charlotte. The Dutch Lions and the Lady Eagles did not meet in the 2012 season.
The game will take place at Beavercreek High School on Saturday, May 5 at 5:30 PM. Tickets for the match can be purchased at the gate or by visiting www.ticketfly.com.
