Dayton, June 10 2013 - The Dayton Dutch Lions Women's team picked up three points on their road trip to Florida where they played Tampa VSI on both Saturday (35 minutes, game suspended) and Sunday 9am (remaining 55 minutes). The team of Sid van Druenen and Catherine Gordon beat Tampa VSI with a 2-1 score after they were leading 1-0 after the 35 minutes on Saturday.
"It was a intense trip" Sid van Druenen stated when they got back, "we had some issues with the bus on our way there that delayed our arrival by 5 hours, taking us 20 hours to get to the Hotel... Hotel was great and they had a fantastic breakfast so we where pumped and motivated to play a good game but the weather didn't cooperate... We kicked of at 5pm instead of 3pm and only got 35 minutes of the game in... The field became unplayable and the referee's had to call the game. The decision was made that we where playing the rest of the game the next morning. The next task was to find a hotel and it took us a while but we found one... We all discovered in the middle of the night that a railroad track ran nearby because there where non stop trains coming by... That plus a friendly rooster that started "signing" every 15 minutes after 5.30am made it a very interesting night!! But nothing would affect the team and once we were back on the field we dominated, played strong and won the game." Sid continued "This trip shows that we are not only physically fit and prepared but also mentally it's hard to break us, but still we are all happy to be home."
The win puts the Lady Lions at 7 points in three games and with several games in hand the Lions are facing a crucial weekend on the road playing Charlotte and Carolina June 15 and 16. The current standings:
