DDL FC Women’s Team beat Atlanta 3-2, clinch Division Title!

Two goals by Fillion put Atlanta away and bring Championship to Dayton

Atlanta, July 6 2013 - The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women's team has won the SouthEastern Conference Championship after beating Atlanta 3-2. The Conference includes all time powerhouses Atlanta and Charlotte Eagles. The Lions are now 5-1-3 but with 5 points ahead of number 2 Charlotte and only one more game to play (against VSI Tampa next week), the Dayton Dutch Lions FC are out of reach and have gotten their first Championship after their inaugural season in 2011.

Although the Lions had a hard game the night before against the Charlotte Eagles (0-0), they played very well and scored 2 goals by Fillion. After the break a third goal was added by Tracy giving the Lions a comfortable lead. Libertin assisted on two goals. After Fillion was forced to leave the game due to a hard tackle, Atlanta came back to 3-2 but even 6 minutes of stoppage time did not  break the Lions defense.

The Championship is a great accomplishment after a winless season in 2012 and a move to one of the strongest Conferences in 2013. A great compliment to the Coaches Sid van Druenen and Catherine Gordon and of course the whole team for a fantastic performance sofar. The number 1 place also means playing the Playoff game at home against the number 2 of the Conference. The winner of that game qualifies for the National Championship in Florida, the last weekend of July with the top 4 teams of the Nation.
