DDL FC W-team loses 2-1 on the road against Carolina

Dayton, Oh, June 22 2014 – The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women’s team (3-5-0) traveled to play the Carolina Elite Cobras (3-1-2).  Dayton and Carolina were both looking for points as a trip to the playoffs was on everyone’s mind.

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women came out strong playing tough and working hard to maintain possession and get the ball into the Cobras half of the field. The Dayton Women’s defense was tight and so was the midfield as they fought to keep Carolina out of their end. The Lions held up until the twenty third minute when Carolina’s Madeline Brock beat the Dayton defense and cut it back to Chelsea Drennan who would have a deflection and the ball would find the back of the net. The half ended with the Carolina Elite Cobras up by one over the Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women.

The second half the Cobras were able to capitalize on a handball in the box by a Dayton defender. In the forty seventh minute Carolina’s Drennan stepped up and put the penalty kick away. The Lions were not giving up however and in the fifty second minute they picked up a goal of their own when Micayla Powers found Gemma Craine. The game would come to an end with Dayton unable to find the equalizer and the Carolina Elite Cobras would beat  the Dayton Dutch Lions FC  2-1.

The Dayton Dutch Lions Women’s Coach Gavin MacLeod had this to say about the game. “Today was another lost opportunity for us. Where we gave away little chances with lapses in concentration, they capitalized.  Lack of concentration has been getting us into trouble all season. In the first half, going forward we were sloppy with our passes. In the second half we came out with more energy and we played much better. Ultimately, we gave away two goals and we were unable to come up with the equalizer.”

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Women (3-6-0) return home to DOC Stadium for their final league game on Friday, July 4th at 4:00pm to face the Gulf Coast Texans (3-1-2).
