DDL OPEN TRYOUTS

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC hosted 48 player hopefuls at their 2018 Mens PDL Open tryout.  The group started with a club orientation, introduction to the coaching staff and team assignments.

Once outside, team trainer Neil Greier led a full warm-up to prepare the lads for the training session.

Head Coach Dan Griest led several passing drills focusing on quick, short passing and connecting longer switches of play.  After an hour of short sided scrimmages, the group of 48 was trimmed to 24 for the full field session.

Coach Dan Griest shared, "The open tryout is a great way for us to invite in some regional college players, as well as see players who may have slipped through the cracks and let them showcase their skills.  We have been working on our roster since early September, but still have a spot or two that could be filled with a surprise talent."

"I thank all the boys for coming out and giving a strong effort.  The short sided games and full scrimmage were very competitive which is what you want to see.  We will review our notes and see if we are able to add any players from today's outing."

The group of players were from 17 to 24 in age and represented 15 countries.  They came from 6 different states to have a chance at making the summer roster.

"I was pleased to see such a vast array of talent attend the tryout," said DDL FC General Manager Ric Campbell. "It was very interesting to see the different styles of play as we had South America, Africa and most of Europe represented along with our American boys.  The positive is that everyone worked hard to adapt and put forth their best."
