The Dayton Dutch Lions FC is proud to announce the hiring of Corey Whisenhunt as the Academy Manager for the club. Corey is a former USL professional player who worked his way through the amateur ranks playing in the MASL, NPSL, PDL and USL. Most recently, he was an assistant/goalkeeper coach with the Puerto Rican Women's National team.
"We are excited to bring Corey on our full-time staff," said General Manager Ric Campbell. "His playing and coaching experience gives him a wonderful knowledge base to share with our youth. He is a soccer junkie and I look forward to the impact he is going to have on our soccer academy. Corey has signed on for two years with an option for more because he believes in our program."
Whisenhunt is a graduate of Wright State University with a degree in Organizational Leadership. He played Divison I soccer at both High Point University in North Carolina as well as his final three years with the Raiders. He is a local product having grown up in Kettering, Ohio and was a four year varsity member for Fairmont high school.
"I am very honored to take this position with DDL FC. What a great way for me to give back to the soccer community with the club that gave me my first professional opportunity. I played for the 2012 Dutch Lions pro team and learned so much that season," shared Whisenhunt. "Being raised in the Miami Valley, I fully understand the youth club landscape and what we need to do for our players."
"I was so fortunate to have some really good coaches growing up who had a strong impact on my life. I look to do the same utilizing the club's core values of respect, integrity, positive communication, teamwork and continual improvement. My goal is to make sure we are helping families both on and off the pitch."
Whisenhunt has his soccer license through the US Soccer Federation. His time spent with the Puerto Rican National team gave him experience of what the top level of coaching looks like and how to motivate players at all levels. Corey has experience playing both in the field, but excelled as a goalkeeper. This playing background will allow him to provide valuable training to all the players at the Dayton Dutch Lions FC.
Please join us in welcoming Corey to the Orange Family. He will be at tryouts to meet all of our current and prospective players.
