Dayton, March 15, 2019 - Dayton Dutch Lions FC is excited to announce the signing of Kristofer (Kristo) Strickler for the 2019 Men’s team. Kristo is currently playing for Virginia Tech University. In the 2018 season he started all 21 games while scoring 10 goals and having 4 assists. Dayton Dutch Lions FC interviewed Kristo Strickler.
DDL: Where are you originally from?
KS: I am originally from Columbus, Ohio.
DDL: What colleges/clubs have you played for?
KS: I have played club soccer with Blast F.C. and High School with St. Charles Preparator School. I then went to college and played for Virginia Tech University since 2017.
DDL: What position(s) do you (prefer) to play?
KS: I prefer to play striker or winger.
DDL: What have been the highlights of your soccer career sofar?
KS: I would say two sofar: inn 2018 I made the 2ndTeam All-ACC scoring 10 goals in 21 games and in 2016 we were State Runners-up for High school.
DDL: Why did you choose to play for DDL FC the upcoming season?
KS: I chose to play with DDL FC so I can train and compete at a high level amongst other athletes.
DDL: What are your expectations for the 2019 season?
KS: I know that I’m going to be surrounded by guys that want to work hard and compete for another title, and I am excited to be in an environment like this during the summer.
Head Coach Dan Griest commented on Kristo’s signing: “We are extremely excited to add someone of Kristo's pedigree to the side for the 2019 summer. His tenacious effort and intensity led to a tremendous amount of success at Virginia Tech in the ACC, and I believe those qualities will allow him to transition into our group very quickly. He is an extremely selfless player with great instincts in and around the box, and I am thrilled to add someone of his quality into our group as we look to repeat as Great Lakes Division champions and make a run at national title.
Come see Kristo in action this season at DOC Stadium in West Carrollton. The opening game is May 18 with a double header with the Women’s team, when the Men play Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC in their first of four derby’s in 2019. The game starts at 7pm while the Women kick off at 4pm!
