Dayton Dutch Lions FC is excited to announce the signing of Sam DeRoy for the 2019 Men’s team. The former Wright State University player was also part of the winning 2018 team. Dayton Dutch Lions FC interviewed DeRoy.

DDL FC: Where are you originally from?

SD: I am born and raised in Columbus, OH.

DDL FC: What colleges/clubs have you played for?

SD: I have played for Classics Eagles, Team Ohio, Crew U19, Crew U23, Dayton Dutch Lions FC, Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC and Wright State University.

DDL FC: What position(s) do you (prefer) to play?

SD: I prefer to play CDM or Center back.

DDL FC: What have been the highlights of your soccer career?

SD: I must say winning a Division 1 State Championship and being named as an All-American and as the best player in the State of Ohio. Also, I was awarded All Horizon League honors at Wright State for three straight seasons. I was also nominated as the MVP following our 2015 season at Wright State University and selected All-Academic 1stteam for the state of Ohio. And of course, a highlight was winning the USL PDL Division Championship with DDL FC last year.

DDL FC: Why did you choose to play for DDL FC the upcoming season?

SD: Because I want to defend our title and wanted to play in the US Open cup for the first time in my career.

DDL FC: What are your expectations for the 2019 season?

SD: Finishing on top of the table.

Head Coach Dan Griest commented on DeRoy’s signing: “Sam is another player that played a significant role for us last year.  He is another player that brings a wealth of experience with him a side full of young and hungry guys wanting to make a name for themselves.  I believe his ability to dictate the pace of a game, his tremendous composure, and his quality decision making in the middle of the park will take a lot of pressure off our younger guys and allow them to be able to take a lot of chances in the final third.  His versatility will allow him to even slot in across the back if necessary.  I am thrilled to be able to have him back as we look to repeat as Great Lakes Division champions this summer”.

Come see Sam DeRoy in action this season at DOC Stadium in West Carrollton. The opening game is this Saturday May 18 with a double header with the Women’s team, when the Men play Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC in their first of four derby’s in 2019. The game starts at 7pm while the Women kick off at 4pm.
