DDL FC Men suffers 3-1 loss in Chicago

Dayton, June 4, 2019 - The Dayton Dutch Lions FC Men's team traveled to Chicago this weekend for back to back games vs Chicago United FC. The first game was on Sunday and did not count towards league standings. Head Coach Dan Griest used the game (just like Chicago) to give playing time to a lot of players that had not played (a lot) until now. Chicago got on the scoreboard first in the 24th minute but Pewu tied the game in the 42nd minute off an assits by Adjei. Pewu assisted on the second goal in the 47th minute when Jaz scored 2-1. The Lions could not hold on to the lead and Chicago managed to score two more goals making the final score 3-2.

On Monday the Lions were 0-0 at halftime but went down 1-0 just into the second half when Klein scored in the 47th minute. The Lions created several good opportunities themselves but simply could not score. It was Klein again who scored in the 80th minute to give Chicago a 2-0 lead, followed by a goal of Perez in the 88th minute. The Lions pulled one back in the 94th minute making the final score 3-1. Head Coach Dan Griest looked back on the game and commented: "Chicago United FC is a good team but we probably played our best half so far this season in the first half. But unfortunately we just couldn’t put a ball away. We then gave up a silly goal 2 minutes into the 2nd half and dominated another 30 minutes and again, we just couldn’t score. We ended up giving up two goals in the last 7 minutes chasing the game. Despite the loss the game shows we are moving in the right direction, we just need to finish our chances."

The Men play again on Wednesday June 5 at home at 7pm vs West Virginia Alliance FC.
