Dayton, August 15, 2019
FC Cincinnati has added another former Dayton Dutch Lions FC employee to their staff. Besides Cody Parsons, Satoshi Tatsumi and Matthew Shisler, FC Cincinnati also added Ivar van Dinteren to the organization as the Assistant Coach of newly appointed Head Coach Ron Jans.
Van Dinteren was part of the Dutch Lions Fc organization for three years, working closely with founders and owners Mike Mossel and Erik Tammer in the initial years of the club. He was one of the first players that Dayton Dutch Lions FC signed for their inaugural season in the USL in 2010. He was then appointed Head Coach of the USL PRO (now Championship) team for the 2011 and 2012 season. His biggest success was the US Open Cup run in 2012, making it to the quarter-final vs Kansas City FC in front of 16,000 fans. Before reaching the quarter-final, the team beat Chicago United FC, Columbus Crew and Michigan Bucks on the road. After the 2012 season he then returned to the Netherlands where he continued his coaching career and getting his UEFA A license.
Dutch Lions FC touched base with Van Dinteren regarding his return to the US. He commented: “After being with DDL FC for three seasons I started working in the PEC Zwolle Youth Academy of the Dutch Premier League. There I was Assistant Coach with the U17, U19 and U23 team, then followed by becoming Head Coach of the U19 team and Assistant Coach with the 1stteam with Head Coach Ron Jans. In my third year I also coached my previous Amateur club (4th level) in Bussum. After two years I signed with Almere City FC of the Dutch First Division coaching their U23 team. Last year I was their Head Coach for the U23 team and Assistant Coach with the first team. Despite enjoying coaching in the Netherlands while starting a family, I have always seen working abroad as a challenge and after leaving the US in 2012 I have always said that one day I would love to return, but then to work in the MLS. Now this fantastic opportunity presented itself to join Ron Jans and I/we could not let it pass. It is really impressive what FC Cincinnati has accomplished since their start only a few years ago, and I really look forward to contributing to grow the club and making the city proud. What is also nice is that it is in the area where I have already lived and worked. I just arrived with my whole family and met the team, it is really a good group of guys and I look forward to working with them, all staff involved and the club’s management!”.
We wish Ivar and his family all the best!
