The ladies of Dayton Dutch Lion FC return to Women’s Premier Soccer League play this Sunday. They host in-state rivals, Columbus Eagles FC, at DOC Stadium on Sunday at 4:30 PM in a doubleheader with the men's team.
The Dutch Lions FC [0-1-1] began the WPSL season with a 2-2 draw on the road at FC Pride, then lost less than 24 hours away in the home opener against Cincinnati Sirens FC (0-3).
This will be Dayton’s first match since that opening weekend more than two weeks ago. The space between matches has afforded the Dutch Lions FC to train and coalesce as a team. The Eagles [0-3-0] enters the match on a three game losing skid, but the Eagles looked much improved in the last outing against FC Pride. The Dutch Lions FC and the Eagles appear to approach the game in a similar fashion with both teams looking to maintain possession while patiently building the attack. If both sides are in good form on Sunday, spectators will be treated to a beautiful game.
Dayton can close the gap in the all-time head-to-head record in this matchup. Dating back to 2017, Columbus maintains a 2-1-1 edge over the Dutch Lions FC.
The match is scheduled as the first course in Dutch Lions FC doubleheader on Sunday. The men entertain Toledo Villa FC in USL League Two play at the conclusion of the women’s match (7pm).
