The Dutch Lions battled Toledo Villa FC in a thrilling encounter on home turf Wednesday night.
Jacabo Sanfeliu scored a late game-winner in the 85th minute to give the Toledo Villa FC a 2-1 victory over the Dayton Dutch Lions at DOC Stadium on Wednesday night.
Toledo got on the board in the first half when Ali Nasser scored on a free kick in just the ninth minute. It would stay that way until the 55th minute when the Dutch Lions’ Roi Moskowitz was fouled in the penalty area and was awarded a penalty kick. He slotted it in and Dayton tied it up at 1-1. Sanfeliu’s go-ahead goal was the last notable moment of the match.
Toledo improves to 1-1 while the Dutch Lions fall to 0-2. Coach Hans Pascoal remained upbeat after the game, saying “Despite the final result we are excited about the quality of play we put on the field the second half.” The Dutch Lions scored their first goal of the young season and will look to have their shooting boots on next time out.
Dayton will return to the pitch in search of their first win on Saturday when they host FC Buffalo at 7 pm. It will be a part of a doubleheader with the Lady Dutch Lions hosting the Columbus Eagles at 4 pm.
