The Dutch Lions women make their return to DOC Stadium on June 3 to take on Columbus Eagles FC in their home opener. Last season, the Eagles finished above the Dutch Lions in the standings, but new faces bring new hopes for the team.
Among those new faces, head coach Jimmy Campbell notes that fans should look out for Carly Groh, Megan McClish, Zy Parker, Addie Erslan, and Emma Lloyd. Campbell says his goal for the season is “play our hearts out for our fans and families and leave each game knowing we played our best.” Fans can expect to experience “high pace” attacking soccer from their team.
The women’s side has had notable alumni including USWNT star Rose Lavelle, so fans could be witnessing future superstars take the field. It’s going to be a night to remember to kick off a special season, so don’t miss out.
Following the women's game the Dutch Lions men will look to secure their first win of the season under the Saturday night lights of DOC Stadium as they host Buffalo FC. Last time out, the Lions narrowly lost 2-1 to Toledo Villa FC in the home opener. After the match, Coach Hans Pascoal expressed that the team can turn it around. “I expect the team to come out with high intensity and compete from the whistle for a win,” he said. “There’s certainly a basis to build on for the rest of the season.”
The Dutch Lions will look to defend home-field advantage against a Buffalo team making a long trip from New York. Buffalo will also be looking to get a first win of the season, entering the game with two draws and a loss. Buffalo sits in fifth place in the Valley Division, two points above sixth place Dutch Lions.
If the last game was any indication, fans are in for an exciting night of soccer.
